INTERDISTRICT TRANSFERS
FAQs
What is an interdistrict transfer?
An interdistrict transfer is when a student either transfers into or out of his or her district of residence to attend school in another school district.
We live outside of your district. How can I enroll my child at Kit Carson?
Students who live beyond our district boundaries must apply for an interdistrict transfer to be considered for enrollment. To begin the interdistrict transfer process, you must request release from your current district of residence first. If approved, the district of residence must send the interdistrict agreement and all supporting documents to Kit Carson UESD to make a final determination.
Note: Interdistrict transfers are not required for those interested in attending Mid Valley Charter; however, there is a separate enrollment process. To process a transfer to Mid Valley Charter, please call 559-583-1149 or 559-582-2843 ext. 107.
When can I submit my interdistrict transfer request?
Interdistrict transfer requests will be accepted beginning January 15th and end on the last business day of April for the following school year.
Requests made outside the above stated timeline for special circumstances may be considered based upon KCUESD Board Policy/Administrative Regulation 5117 and Education Code §46600.
How will I know if my interdistrict transfer request was approved or denied?
A letter will be mailed home following the board meeting your request is reviewed to inform you if your interdistrict transfer has been approved or denied.
Do I need to apply for an interdistrict transfer every year?
Yes. Interdistrict transfers are valid only for the school year granted and must be renewed annually.
We are moving out of the Kit Carson district. What do we need to do?
Contact our School Secretary/Registrar at 559-582-2843 to initiate the interdistrict transfer process between Kit Carson and your child's new school district.
