    2nd Grade

    A

    Absents ~ If your child is absent, please call the office at 582-2843 to let the school know.   Your child’s progress, both academically and socially, is influenced to a great extent by daily participation. Your child's regular and prompt attendance at school is crucial to his/her success. 

    B

    Backpacks ~ Always check your child's back pack every day!  Please take out any papers that should stay home.

    Birthdays ~ Birthdays are special occasions for young children.   Due to state rules treats may not be sent to class. 

    C

    Conferences ~ Parent Teacher conferences are held October 4th & 7th  and as well as March 17th.

    D

    Disimissal ~ Students will be dismissed at 2:40 (Tuesday-Friday)  Any change in your child’s regular dismissal routine MUST be written!

    Early Release ~ Every Monday students will be dismissed at 1:30 p.m.

    Fieldtrips ~  We plan field trips during the year that are both fun and educational for the children. We often need parent volunteers on the trips, so please consider chaperoning. Notes about field trips will be sent home in the Red Homework Folder.

    Get ready for a great year!

    Homework~ Homework will be sent home on Monday in their blue folder.  Homework needs to be returned on Friday.

    Independence ~ 2nd graders are very capable to doing many things on their own and I encourage them to do as much as they can for themselves in the classroom.

    Journals ~ Writing takes place every day.  One way to accomplish this is through writing in our journals.

    Keep Updated~ Check Blue Homework Folder every day for notes. 

    L

    Library ~ Our class will visit the library once a week.  Your child will check out a book when we visit the library.  If your child forgets to return the book the next week, they will not be allowed to check out a new book until it is returned.

    Lunch~ Our class eats lunch at 11:45 a.m.

    Mid Week Message ~ The office will send home the Mid Week Message home on Wednesdays.

    Name~ Please put your child's name on ALL of his/her belongings!

    O

    Office~ Please make sure you check in with the office when coming on school grounds.

    P

    PTC ~ Another way to become involved in your child’s education is to join the Kit Carson Parent Teacher Club.  PTC meets once a month.  Join today, don’t delay!

    Report Cards ~ They will be sent home 3 times during the year.

    Transportation ~ If your child has any changes in their transportation please let know in writing. If I do not have written communication that your child will go home a different way, she/he will be sent home the way she/he normally goes home.

    Unexcused Absence~ The Education Code (section 48205) specifies the following reasons for excused absences:

    1. Absence due to illness.

    2. Absence due to professional medical, dental, optometry, or chiropractic service.

    3. Absence due to attendance at a funeral for a member of immediate family (mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, or siblings).

    4. Absence due to justifiable personal reasons (appearance in court, observance of a religious holiday or ceremony)

    5. Absence due to quarantine.

    Student absences for any reason other than specified above are counted as unexcused.

    Volunteers ~ Parents play a very important role in their child's educational development. Because of this, you are always welcome to volunteer your time to help out in your child's classroom or somewhere else at school.

    Extra Clothes~ If you would like you can send an extra set of clothes (pants, shirt, underwear, socks) labeled with your child's name inside a zip-lock bag in case of an accident.  Remember that accidents can include spilled milk or mud puddles on the playground.  When accidents happen, we’ll be ready.

    YOU~ You are your child’s first teacher. I feel that parents and teacher need to work together to provide your child with the best educational experience ever.

    Z

    ZZZZ~ Make sure that your child gets plenty of rest.  Setting and keeping a bedtime is a wonderful gift you can give to your child.  It will help them to be alert and ready to learn each day.
